INTRODUCTION TO MEDITATION: FIRST SATURDAY OF most MONTHS, please check calendar to confirm.

SUNDAY ZAZEN: EVERY SUNDAY, 10am-12pm with Dharma Talk.

MORNING ZAZEN: EVERY TUESDAY and THURSDAY, 6-7am.

EVENING ZAZEN: EVERY TUESDAY and THURSDAY, 7-9pm.

Zazen Information:
We ask that you join our monthly Saturday Intro or arrange a meeting prior to taking part in a formal sitting in order to receive instruction in our zendo protocol. Zazen consists of two pairs of formal, 25-minute periods of meditation interspersed with 7-10 minutes kinhin (walking meditation).

If you have had little or no experience with Zen meditation and/or no experience with Rinzai Zen meditation, then attending a half-day Introduction to Zen Meditation is a prerequisite to sitting at HVZC.

We offer a MONTHLY INTRODUCTION, usually on the first Saturday of the month, from 9am~noon, which you will find useful even if you have done Zen practice before. We suggest to wear loose, comfortable, dark clothing that covers shoulders and knees. Please download an application from (link) and send it to us via e-mail or snail mail. SUNDAY sittings are from 10am-12pm and consist of zazen, chanting and a short dharma talk. Please make sure to contact us if you wish to join us for daily sittings, sesshin or other events. You are welcome to practice us for a few sittings on donation basis, after which we suggest to join us as a member. The teaching at HVZC is free. However upkeep, construction materials and labor, electricity, water, heating and cooling, as well as repair and maintenance of property and buildings is not. We deeply appreciate help with these costs. Non-members experienced in Rinzai Zen may come to a few sittings without becoming members. For those who wish to continue sitting with us, membership is appropriate.
